Torrey lines consist of a high quality mainline rope with swivel clips at given spacings, to which are attached long, high-visibility, vertical streamers. The torrey lines are deployed at the back of longiners, at both sides of the setting zone, forming a 'curtain' that helps restrict searbirds' access to baited hooks.
Fiskevegn supplies the mainline with swivel clips and fluorescent tubing required to rig up the streamer lines. Using torrey lines, or streamers, is mandatory or a recommended Best Fishing Practice in many fisheries around the world. Combined with our fast-sinking IWX lines, they help keep seabrids out of harm's way.
An overview of Best Practises for seabird bycatch-mitigation, including usage of streamer lines is provided by ACAP (fact-sheets FS01, FS07 a and b).
