Optimal longline design requires a careful balance between key properties, while making as few compromises as possible. We also take into account that rope properties of rope change over time. Fiskevegn lines are designed to provide maximum life-span, minimize the risk of losing catch, and deliver excellent coiling properties. Users who select longlines primarily for their ease of coiling when new, while overlooking how the lines may perform over time, may experience only short-term benefits and higher line consumption. As lines age, they may (1) become stiffer; (2) have a lower breaking load; and (3) develop poorer abrasion resistance.
