Our snoods are produced in different dimensions to accomodate various hook sizes and fishing requirements. They are mainly made of polyester and attached to the hook. The most common type is the EC hook, available in the following sizes: 11/0, 12/0, 13/0, 14/0 and 15/0.

Producing high-quality commercial hooks for longline fishing is demanding. Only a handful of suppliers are able to cost-effectively meet the strict requirements of longline fishermen and automatic longline systems. Fast hooking and hauling in rough conditions require a stable and steady hook.
Saltwater and physical wear create challenges related to corrosion. The protective coating used to prevent corrosion affects both the sharpness and cost of the hook. Hooks that are too brittle tend to lose the bait and/or break at the tip. Hooks that are too soft can straighten during use and require frequent maintenance. Studies have shown that a significant proportion of fish that attack the bait are not caught. Therefore, hook sharpness is critical.
Fishermen expect all these, as well as several other properties, to be optimised while keeping costs as low as possible. It is therefore no surprise that few manufacturers take on the challenge.
